Combating Smoking & Addiction

According to the directions of President. Hosni Mubarak and of the First Lady Mrs. Suzan Mubarak to bring up youth well, to keep on the security of citizen, and to prevent smoking and drug addiction

In line with the Aims of the Federation to create good & safe community, the Federation has an active participation and cooperation with different Specialized Organizations.

under the patronage of Mrs. Suzan Mubarak, EFSGG  Held

“conference for combating addiction & crime spread”

that was organized by NCMC in cooperation with the  

United Nations Regional Office for combating drug abuse

from21-23April 2001 with the participation of 300 Scouts & Girl Guides.

Organizing 23 activities in 10 Governorates targeting 2413 scouts, during 2001. 

 Improving the scouting and guiding skills and believing in their principles.

 Empowering loyalty and patriotism.

The Egyptian Federation for Scouts & Girl Guides participated in establishing The Arab and the Egyptian federations of NGOs for prevention of substance abuse in 1995 (in the federation) with Participation in all conferences and meetings, reaching 175 events involving 18385 scouts & girl guides.

Smoking is banned in all scout centers and camps.


Sanitary Latrine

According to the directions of President/ Hosni Mubarak to take care of the low-income citizens and to give a special priority to projects that help in raising the standard of living, protecting environment and developing community development

  • Providing latrines easy to install and use, Cheap, and rationalize water consumption


Project identification

Double pit sanitary latrines are connected with two 3-inch pipes.

A distribution chamber in between is connected with capacity 1.2m x 1.2m at least.  In the chamber, a bowl (base) of fiberglass is installed.

As the Egyptian Federation for Scouts and Girl Guides is keen to increase the number of latrine unit to serve as much citizens as possible, the Federation made many contacts with scout leaders and specialists in this field to study the best prices of raw materials in the local markets in Cairo and project Governorates.  These contacts resulted in the following

Approving the master model of the unit.

 Reducing the actual cost by 52% 

Local manufacturing of the basic units

This resulted in increasing the installed units in Upper Egypt Governorates and employing greater number of young people during vacations and official holidays of universities.

•  5000 ( five thousands ) scouts and girl guides participated in the Governorates, where the scouts built the latrines and the girl guides conveyed environmental, hygienic and maternal health awareness promotion.

•Latrines create a practical solution for sanitary human waste problem

 - Hygienic awareness contributes in eliminating the diseases of diarrhea, dehydration, Ophthalmic, and respiratory diseases.  So, improves the economical and social aspects.

 - Girl Guides reach the core of villages providing health and environmental awareness.

 -Achieving social equality among citizens in the most deprived villages, where they feel neglected and marginalized. 

 -Offering employment opportunities for youth through developing their vocational skills during stages of implementation

-Spending the entire fund assigned in the target village Supports local economy, with a possibility to expand implementation in the surroundings.  Therefore, youth benefits from the saved funds in other projects

 

 -Promoting loyalty and solving the unemployment problem.

Challenges

 

1 -Widely separated locations led to difficulties in implementation.

2 - Delivering raw materials in expected time.

3-Unplanned narrow streets and alleys of villages and the small sized houses created an obstacle during implementation.


Eliminating poliomyelitis

Under the Patronage of the First Lady, Ms. Suzan Mubarak and as per directions of the minister of Health, in cooperation with UNICEF

Holding conferences in all Egyptian Governorates that were attended by 32 physicians, 29 leaders and rover scouts from universities, and 18 scouting officials

• Conducting 20 training courses in 18 Governorates for 500 leaders and rover scouts on ways of prevention, followed by training courses for each scouting group countrywide, the totally number of trainees amounted to 10,000 scouting boys and girls.

• Participating in the National Weeks for Poliomyelitis from 1995 till 2003.

• The project was highlighted through organizing marshes in all Governorates, followed by awareness seminars for citizens on the disease. Posters, booklets, and stickers were distributed.

• Reaching out the villages, and hamlets far from the cities to provide vaccines and help doctors during vaccinations in hospitals.

• 1550 scouts and girl guides in Cairo and Giza were trained on vaccination by the year 2002/2003 by Health Directorates in Governorates.

• 8500 scouts, girl guides and scout physicians participated in the Governorates.

• From 2002, the Ministry of Health and Population expanded its vaccination strategy to be done in-houses. In governorates, wide meetings were held and attended by the coordinating committee of the EFSGG, health departments’ directors, and officials of the National Program of Poliomyelitis Vaccination. A work plan for each Governorate was developed under the supervision of the Heads Medical Departments, in cooperation with E.F.S.G.G and UNICEF. This procedure takes place every year in all Egyptian Governorates for the three campaigns during September/October/December, and the regular campaigns in March/April each year.

Development of the Egyptian Village

According to the principle role of youth in social environment development projects in Egypt and to interpolate government plan toward Egyptian Village development (Representative Village) and because of the success of Flush Latrine Project which achieved by the cooperation between Ministry of youth and Ministry of Local Development and Egyptian Federation for Scouts and Girl Guides Because of all that ministry of local development present "Development of The Egyptian Village" Agreement to UNICEF as the first step to be achieved in the Flush Latrine Projects Village.

  • 7007 Trees had been cultivated in Al-Marashda Village (3820 fruitful trees and 3187 ficus trees).

  • Build up child's garden (1000 M2) in Al-Marashda Village.

  • Other child's garden (300 M2) in Al-Aziza Village (Asiot).

  • Build up woman & child meeting center (90 M2) in Al-Marashda Village, and the other one (162 M2) in Al-Azaiza Village.

  • (765) Water counters had been made up in Al-Marashda Village and other (1000) water counters had been made up in Al-Azaiza village.
